FIS Nordic Junior/U23 World Ski Championships – Friday February 3 Recap

Day 7 of the 2023 FIS Nordic Junior/U23 World Ski Championships brought many exciting events that were full of talented athletes, such as the U23 Cross-Country Women’s and Men’s Individual Free 10km and the Nordic Combined Junior Individual Gundersen. The day started off with sunshine and finished with heavy snowfall. 8cm of snow is expected overnight, with light snow continuing into tomorrow.

RECAP:

The day got off to an exciting start with the U23 Women’s Cross-Country Individual Free 10km.

Germany’s Helen Hoffmann had an impressive race with a time of 26:13, earning the gold medal. Izabela Marcisz was only 1.5 seconds behind Hoffmann, winning the silver and claiming Poland’s second medal of the Championships. Norway’s Margrethe Bergane was only a few seconds behind with a race time of 26:17.4, getting the bronze medal. Norway swept the podium in the U23 Men’s Cross-Country Individual Free 10km. Martin Kirkeberg Moerk won the gold medal with a time of 22:52, Lars Agnar Hjelm won the silver with a time of 26:2.5 and Jonas Vika took home the bronze with a race time of 22:35.

The Nordic Combined Junior Individual Gundersen was also very exciting; in this event, athletes start with one jump each, followed by a 5 km (women) or 10 km (men) ski. The podium order was the same for both the Men’s and Women’s Junior Individual Nordic Combined: Italy, Germany, and Austria. For the Women’s event, Italy’s Annika Sieff won Gold with a jump score of 120.1 and a race time of 14:42.9. The silver medal was claimed by Nathalie Armbruster from Germany with a jump score of 115.2 and a race time of 14:59.2. Austria’s Lisa Hirner won the bronze with a jump score of 108.3 and a race time of 15:24.1. The snow fell fast as the Italians sang loudly and proudly to their national anthem. It was a wonderful way to close out Day 7 of the 2023 FIS Nordic Junior/U23 World Ski Championships.
